Wool is an important textile fiber. It is a protein fiber; it contains some special protein like keratin. Keratin is the main chemical composition of wool.

Protein also forms some of the things you wear – namely leather, silk, and wool. Protein is a natural polymer formed from molecules called amino acids. Feathers and fur, hair and fingernails (even animal hooves), are all made of the protein keratin. Wool is made from sheep hair, and is great for clothing and fabric.

As for odor-fighting prowess, wool doesn’t kill funk-producing bacteria per se—it actually just absorbs the microbes and doesn’t allow them to reproduce. The wool’s fatty acids lock up the bacteria, effectively shutting down the stank. The fatty acids then release them into the water when the wool is washed.
Does lanolin kill bacteria?
But it turns out the reason isn’t what you think: wool doesn’t kill bacteria, it just hides their odor. Lanolin, an oily substance sheep make from glands in their skin, does have antibacterial properties. Instead, the fibers seem to be trapping the stinky chemicals that sweat-eating bacteria excrete.

A Durock panel with a thickness of 1/2 or 5/8 inch can provide two hours of fire protection when installed correctly and in conjunction with all fireproofing construction materials.
Do I need a vapor barrier behind durock?
You should NOT place a vapor barrier BEHIND the backer board. A moisture barrier is necessary with any cement board product. If you do not have plastic or roofing felt behind it, then a liquid-applied membrane is in order. Durock is indeed waterproof, meaning it is not harmed by water.
