The white sphere that forms around Tetsuo after the Espers summon Akira is Akira’s very own consciousness. The burst of white light is unexplained but its meant to signify that like Akira, Tetsuo has transcended into another plane of existence. At the end of the movie, Tetsuo says cryptically “I am Tetsuo.” He exists.

Tetsuo gained his telekinetic ability from coming in contact with one of the other telekinetic human being. His powers alter greatly because of government test and having to fight others out of his mind which cause them to go out of countrol.

For Akira though, I like the anniversary redub over other tracks. English dub. The original English dub and the remastered version they did a couple of years back are very good, with the original Akira dub being one of the best at the time. Always subbed over dubbed. Anime 101.

Really, it’s an amazing example of a Japanese graphic novel, and I definitely recommend reading it. Akira movie might be considered a masterpiece of Japanese animation, but I dare say that Akira manga is probably a better experience than the movie overall, and a masterpiece of comic art in it’s own right.
