It would appear the cr 1616 is 16mm diameter and 1.6mm thick. While the cr2016 is 20mm in diameter and 1.6mm thick. So you definitely can’t use cr2016 in place of cr1616 as its just too wide. Same applies to using cr2032 in place of cr2016.
