It is perfectly fine to apply self-tanner or spray tan over scars, as long as they have healed completely and are not sensitive or tender. A scar can take up to a year to complete heal, changing in both color, texture and appearance.

Is sun good for old scars?

Scars should be carefully protected from the sun for at least 1 year after surgery or injury. Sun exposure can darken scars permanently, making them more noticeable. After about 2 weeks of healing, you can start applying sunscreen over your child’s scar. Apply sunscreen in every season, not just in the summer.

Does the sun help scars fade?

Whether caused by injury, acne, surgery, or disease, scars can serve as unwanted reminders of past trauma. Fortunately, most scars do fade over time, even if they never entirely go away. Some people infer that getting some additional color from the sun would actually help their scars blend in and/or fade away.

Is it bad to expose scars to sun?

Your scar is very sensitive to strong sunlight and can burn easily, so please try to avoid exposing your scar to the sun. You should use a very strong sunblock (SPF 30 or higher) on your scar for 18 months after the surgery/injury that caused the scar.

Why do cuts leak clear fluid?

How long will a wound weep?

A large, deep scrape may take up to 1 to 2 weeks or longer to heal. It’s common to have small amounts of fluid drain or ooze from a scrape. This oozing usually clears up gradually and stops within 4 days. Drainage is not a concern as long as there are no signs of infection.
