What is a healthcare specialist in the Army?

The health care specialist is primarily responsible for providing emergency medical treatment, limited primary care, and health protection and evacuation from a point of injury or illness.

Becoming a combat medic requires the completion of 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training, as well as Advanced Individual Training, which takes 16 weeks to complete. Combat medics can expect to receive ongoing training throughout their enlistment.

  • The Army Combat Uniform;
  • An ACH, or Advanced Combat Helmet.
