What is a jig and fixture?

What is a jig and fixture?

A jig's primary purpose is to provide repeatability, accuracy, and interchangeability in the manufacturing of products. A jig is often confused with a fixture; a fixture holds the work in a fixed location. A device that does both functions (holding the work and guiding a tool) is called a jig.

What is the difference between a jig and a template?

It is different from a jig in that it is designed only to hold the workpiece and the machine bed to their locations while the jig is used to hold and guide the tool. It aligns and puts the workpiece firmly in place to allow for easier and faster completion of a machine operation or industrial process.
