You definitely need a primer designed specifically for plastic if you’re using regular spray paint. The specialty primer can create a foundation that helps the paint stick. Apply the spray primer in even amounts to the completely sanded, clean and dry plastic item.
Can I use rustoleum on plastic models?
Rustoleum can actually melt some plastic (they are made for metal). I had poor luck with a silver that crazed the surface of a jet kit and made it all crinkly. I would also test or be careful with the clear. It may be too “hot” to apply over model paints.
