How do you find the distance?

How do you find the distance?

Simply use the formula d = |x2 – x1|. In this formula, you subtract x1 from x2, then take the absolute value of your answer to find the distance between x1 and x2. Typically, you'll want to use the one-dimensional distance formula when your two points lie on a number line or axis.

Can you measure the height of a tree by your thumb?

Outstretch your arm and hold the pencil so that you can measure the height of the tree on the pencil with your thumb. Then turn the pencil at the base of the tree by 90 degrees. Note where the distance measured by thumb hits the earth and measure the distance from this point to the tree.
