Basically the idea is you use regular isopropyl rubbing alcohol, put it onto a cotton swab or some sort of cleaning cloth, and use it to clean your strings, rubbing it the length of your guitar strings, and getting all the dirt off, and all the grime off, helping your strings to last longer.
Can I use furniture polish on my guitar?
No, do not use furniture polish anywhere near your guitar. It will dry out any exposed wood and it can perminantly stain some kinds of finish while doing nothing for others.
Can I clean my guitar with water?
Yes, you can use water in the form of a clean damp-only cloth. I use the dampened cloth with elbow grease and a dampened soft toothbrush to clean the board and the areas around the frets – rub-a dub-dub – then buff dry with a clean dry cloth. You can do this at every string change if you need to.
Can I use vinegar to clean my guitar?
The only household product that's safe to use to clean your guitar is white distilled vinegar.
Can you use Windex to clean your guitar?
Windex is fine — I would spray a dampened soft rag to clean with, and not directly onto the body of the guitar — just to avoid it getting down inside the body, messing up your label, spotting the ebony bridge, etc. Windex will clean a guitar, but will also strip off any polish or wax that is on the guitar.
