What to know before moving into a dorm?
What to know before moving into a dorm?
Dorm assignments are usually for an entire school year, or two semesters; fall and spring. Students usually move out of their dorm at the end of the spring term, and move back into a dorm a few days before the beginning of the next fall term. This is the usual time to change dorms.
How long does it take to pack a dorm room?
Three-bedroom home: 3-5 days. Four-bedroom home: 4-6 days.
Should I bring a futon to college?
Not every dorm will have room for a futon, however, if you can fit one, I highly recommend it. Otherwise you should bring to college some kind of chair (preferably one that folds) that you can use when you have people in your room (or when you just don't feel like climbing up onto your lofted bed).
Do you have to move in on move in day?
You don't actually have to “move in.” It just means that you now are in possession of the rental unit. So long as you pay the rent on time, the landlord doesn't really care whether you are using it to live in or not. If you fail to sign the lease on time, or at all, is your deposit returned?
What do you need for the first day of college?
Pack the underbed storage containers with the items your student will keep in them during the year. Bulky sweaters and extra sheets and towels are often good items. Use one storage drawer as a “medicine cabinet” with extra toiletries and over-the-counter remedies. Tape the drawers shut before you leave for move-in.
