Rarely, off-campus housing is furnished, but most of the time, students bring in their own furniture, mattress, and bedding. This means you'll need to buy more, but it also gives you more options for making your space comfortable.
How many towels do you need for college?
We've heard of some people who take 7 towels, one for each day of the week. For the college reality of small dorms and very little storage, often it is better to err on the side of less rather than more due to limited space. Heading off to college? We recommend 3 bath towels and 6 washcloths.
Should you bring all your clothes to college?
You can't bring every item of clothing to college with you so you have no room for clothes you don't like. Every item of clothing you pack needs to be an item of clothing you have worn and love. If you are buying new clothes for back to school, try to wear it a bit before you put it in your suitcase for college.
Where do I start packing for college?
Ideally you should start about two weeks before you move into your dorm or apartment. This will give you more than enough preparation time to find what you need without the last-minute stress. It'll also give you plenty of time to go shopping for anything you don't already have.
