What is the difference between a cutting torch and a welding torch?

What is the difference between a cutting torch and a welding torch?

A welding torch has a longer nozzle and two pipes for carrying gas. It's more commonly called a brazing torch. A Cutting torch has three pipes, one of which is for oxygen to help the gasses burn hotter and cut through metal. The small holes receive a mixture of oxygen and acetylene to heat the metal being cut.

Is oxy acetylene welding still used?

Oxy-acetylene welding has become less popular in industrial applications over the years, but is still used extensively in field and shop work. Oxy-acetylene is quite common in automotive repair shops, as well as plumbing applications, fabricating, and even artisan welding.

Can you weld with a propane torch?

Brazing, often discussed with welding, actually is a fundamentally different process. It's more like heavy-duty soldering using bronze rods instead of solder. Standard propane torches don't generate enough heat for brazing, but an inexpensive oxygen/propane or oxygen/MAPP gas torch will do the job nicely.
