Give your pot of metal primer a good stir and paint an even coat onto the pipes. You may find that you need 2 coats of primer to get a nice even finish. Allow the primer to dry for at least one hour, preferably overnight. Be careful not to paint over your radiator valves to make sure that you don't seal them for good.
