How close should you sing to a mic?

How close should you sing to a mic?

To avoid distortion, the mic should be held no closer than 2 to 3 inches from their mouth during normal singing. When singers are told to “eat the microphone,” this does not mean they should literally eat it. The microphone should be kept about one or two inches from your mouth.

Does singing sound better with microphone?

When you sing, do the same and your voice will sound much better on the microphone, amplified naturally this way. Once you've gotten yourself into the habit of maximising your vocal resonance, it's time to record and listen to yourself. When you playback what you've recorded, consider if you like how you sound.

Why do singers sing so close to the microphone?

High quality sound is not easy to produce. Really GOOD singers WORK with the microphone. It's not glued to their lips. To do that without losing the sound of that quiet voice, you move the microphone closer to the mouth, and the “quieter but more emotional” voice is amplified more in the sound system, and gets heard.
